Davis Holds Off Herriman in Nation's First Football Game of the Season

Thursday 8/13/20 -The Davis Darts traveled south to take on the Herriman Mustangs in the first national high school football game since the pandemic. The Herriman mustangs kicked it off to the darts at 7:10 PM. Davis doesn't do much on there first possession and punt in to the Mustangs. #5 Brock Hollingsworth returns it all the way back to the Davis 10 yard line. 2 plays later #24 Nu’u Tafisi runs 9 yards for a Mustang touchdown putting Herriman up 7-0.


#4 from Davis David Spjut takes the kickoff out to their own 44 yard line. A few plays later #2 Chance Trujillo from Davis throws a 2 yard touchdown pass to #28 Ethan Healey with 6:32 remaining in the first quarter. Herriman then turns it over on downs and Davis comes and scores again making it a 14-7 game. #2 Chance Trujillo throwing another touchdown this time to #6 Owen Murdock and that brings the first quarter to an end.


Soon after, Spencer Ferguson runs 10 yards for another Davis dart touchdown Davis is now leading 21-7. Before halftime Herriman gives the Darts another opportunity to score before halftime and Davis does just that, getting a field goal to go up 24-7 on the mustangs.


The third quarter begins. Can Herriman get any offense going? #5 Brock Hollingsworth gets a 93 yard touchdown kick return touchdown, the kicker misses the field goal, so mustangs trail the darts 21-13 going into the 4th quarter. After 9 minutes of just going back and forth Herriman tries to comeback. #12 Jack White throws a 69 yard touchdown pass to #14 Zack Dern, Mustangs only trailing by 4 now. But it was too late. The quarterback from Davis kneels it and ends the first game of the season. Davis starting 1-0 thanks to a good running back Spencer Ferguson rushing for almost 200 rushing yards.
