American Fork Overpowers West in an Impressive Victory

The American Fork Cavemen(Home) had little trouble cruising past the West High Panthers(Away) in exciting 43 - 19 victory.

To start the game off, American Fork wideout Will Zundel(#93) caught two long passes in a row from Junior QB Maddog Madsen(#4), to set up Spike Adams(#44) for an easy two-yard touchdown rush. Afterward, Adams slammed it in for the 2pt conversion.

Coming in clutch, West QB Karson Lupati(#2), threw a 33-yard dime on fourth down to Bird Butler(#15) to put them right in position to score. After three grueling downs on goal-line, INSERTRBNAME(#) punched it in to put them right back in the game, 8-6. The two-point conversion was failed.

For the next score of the game, American Fork’s Hunter Deuel(#62) made the most of a bad play by recovering a fumble on the 1-yard line for a touchdown. To finish off the drive, Kicker PJ Nettesheim(#19) sails the ball through the upright to complete the PAT and put the Cavemen up 15-6 near the end of the first quarter.

Capitalizing instantly off of the Panther’s turnover on downs, Cavemen QB Madsen(#4) tossed a 51-yard bomb to Will Zundel(#93) for the first score of the second quarter, and American Fork’s third touchdown of the night. Two Conversion caught by Garrison Grimes(#6).

American Fork’s fierce defense holds back West and forces them to punt. Once again, they quickly take advantage and QB Madsen(#4) throws an outrageous 82-yarder to Fisher Ingersoll for another touchdown. Netteshein nails the PAT.

After a good drive, the Panther’s defense comes up big and stops American Fork at the 15-yard line. Feeding off of the defense’s tenacious energy, the West High offense marches down the field, and QB Sesi Vailahi(#11) tosses a 2-yard pass to Kimball Mahina(#58) for a touchdown. 2pt conversion failed.

Finishing up the half, the Panther’s made a huge stop with an interception.

The third quarter saw American Fork score 13 more points with three more touchdown passes from Star QB Maddog Madsen(#4).

For the Panther’s final score of the night, the offense drove down the field and Bronson Saena (#24) barged in for a 2-yard touchdown run. West High Kicker, Yahir Estrada(#22) sailed the PAT to end a great drive.

The fourth quarter was quiet offensively for both teams, but both defenses have a lot to be proud of. Each defense stepped up big and neither team ended up scoring.

The main differential in this game was American Fork’s fantastic passing game.

The Cavemen owned the air tonight with a few hundred yards and multiple long touchdown lobs. A contributor to that was Tight End Garrison Grimes(#6). While he wasn’t scoring touchdowns all over the place, Grimes had himself a game with multiple long receptions and a two-point conversion.

Although West lost, there is still plenty of hope for their season. In fact, their run game is nearly unstoppable. They have a deep rushing roster with players like sophomore Sesi Vailahi(#11), Johnny Alo(#9), Karson Lopati(#2), and other talented playmakers that will help propel them in the future.

Don’t count these guys out.

In conclusion, it’s a good day to be a Caveman. American Fork’s stellar offense continued its dominance scoring 43 points against West. They proved consistent scoring fifteen in the first, fifteen in the second, and thirteen in the third, before quietly finishing off West with 0 in the fourth.

This is a must-watch team for the 20-21 high school football season.
