Skyline gets revenge against Springville in blowout fashion

Utah is one of seven states participating in high school football on this warm Friday evening. The second game of the season underway for both the Eagles and the Red Devils. Both teams headed into this game are 1-0, head coaches, Mike Carlson (Skyline) and, Willy Child (Springville) both have their teams ready to kick-off. Skyline quarterback, Braxton Bolingbroke, felt the Eagles had something to prove after their 34 point loss at the beginning of the 2019 season to Springville.

Bolingbroke said, “Last year’s loss on our home turf was one we took to heart for sure, so we feel like as a team that we owe them one. We want to prove to everyone that we can contend in 5A and can compete at a high level.”

With Springville’s high powered, run-heavy offense, Skyline knew they’d have to come up big to win this one.

Springville kicks the ball off to Skyline to open up the game. Skyline Quarterback, #12 Braxton Bolingbroke, wastes no time in doing what he’d hoped to do coming into tonight’s matchup, throwing an 11 yard TD pass to receiver, Tyler Limpert. The PAT is good by Andrew Fife. 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Springville’s offense, led by Quarterback, Kaden DeLlamas, wasn’t looking to go down without a fight, marching his team down the field and scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run, PAT good by Zackary Antonino.

2:23 remaining in the 1st quarter. At this point in the game, it was looking like it’d be a nail biter, but skylines offense was nowhere close to done. With touchdown passes to Johnson (10:57), Franco (0:04), and Limpert (6:42 and 1:28), QB Bolingbroke and the rest of the Skyline offense looked crisp all the way into half. Springville, scoring a touchdown (DeLlamas to Carson Hansen, PAT good by Zackary Antonino) towards the end of the half was down 35-15.

Braxton Bolingbroke’s insane accuracy, receivers running very clean and crisp routes, along with the offensive line giving Braxton all night to pass, made Skyline look close to unstoppable on the offensive side of the football. The offensive line, led by senior center, Broox Yapias, giving up 0 sacks and 0 notable pass rushes, played a phenomenal game against a larger, aggressive defensive line.

The second half started off with the ball in Quarterback, DeLlamas hands and doesn’t stay there for long with, Skyline defensive tackle, Inoke Touhuni, forced a fumble giving the ball to Skyline on their own 10-yard line. With the way Skylines offense was playing it didn’t take them long to punch the ball in. (Bolingbroke 8 yard touchdown pass to Manwaring, PAT good by Ryan Wiscomb. 11:46 remaining in the 3rd). Skyline defense comes up big shutting Springville out in the second half allowing the offense to milk the clock down to the final minutes of the game with one final touchdown. (TD run by Porter Brockman, PAT good by Ryan Wiscomb. 1:12 remaining)

Skyline came out and shocked the conference with this blowout win over a very talented 5A team. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for these two squads after this week’s game.
